Rebecca Tolk started her photography business, Rebecca Tolk Photography, in 1995. She has studied photography at the University of Delaware and Northern Virginia Community College as well as in New York City and Atlanta, Georgia.
For years, Rebecca made her name in the Washington, DC metro area as a creative wedding and portrait photographer. Her unconventional approach made her quite sought after by clients looking to capture something more personal in their portraits. While developing and growing this business, Rebecca felt a strong pull to create work that was more personal to her, and began traveling with her camera. Along her journey, she discovered the Holga camera; an unusual camera with many technical "imperfections" that produced interesting effects in it's images. This was to become Rebecca's camera of choice.
In April of 2003, with well worn shoes and hundreds of images on film, Rebecca found herself in a place she had long sought. An area of great natural beauty, where the mountains had a soft, strong voice that was echoed in the kind, openhearted people she met. Rebecca knew right then that she would make Asheville, North Carolina her home.
Now Rebecca has found the elusive combination of elements an artist needs to thrive: her medium, her subject and her community. Her photography has evolved into the fine art images that appear in the virtual galleries on this website. Rebecca displays her work in galleries and offers select prints in limited edition runs to the public and private collectors. It is important to remember that the images have not been digitally altered to produce the dream-like quality they capture; that is the result of the photographer and the camera itself.
